Savor the Story, Stir the Soul

There’s something deeply comforting about a pot of gently steaming crabs, infused with fresh herbs, aromatics, and a touch of heat. This recipe is one of those effortless, soulful dishes where the ingredients do most of the work—you simply guide them.
Whether you’re using sea crabs or any variety you love, the magic lies in the clean, bright flavors and the slow, gentle steaming that allows everything to come together beautifully.

Ingredients

  • Sea crabs or any crabs of your choice
  • Lemon
  • Vinegar
  • Fresh basil
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • salt
  • Fresh ginger (cleaned)
  • Black pepper
  • Chili (fresh or dried)
  • Lemon seasoning
  • Cooking oil
  • A handful of your favorite herbs (optional: parsley, thyme, scallions)

Preparation

  1. Clean the Crabs Thoroughly
Rinse your crabs under cool water, then clean them well using lemon and vinegar. This step removes any lingering odors and gives the dish a bright, fresh base.

Blend the Herb Mixture
In a blender, combine:

  • Basil
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Clean ginger
  • Black pepper
  • Chili
  • Lemon seasoning
  • A splash of oil
  • Any additional herbs you enjoy
Blend until smooth, then taste and adjust—add more heat, more herbs, or more citrus depending on your preference.

Steam the Crabs
Place the cleaned crabs into a pot. Pour the blended herb mixture over them, making sure each crab is coated.
Cover the pot and steam on low heat. Slow steaming allows the flavors to seep into the crab meat while keeping everything tender and aromatic.
Let the ingredients work together until the crabs turn bright and the kitchen smells incredible.

Serve & Enjoy
Serve your steamed herb crabs hot, with the fragrant sauce spooned over the top. Pair with rice, plantains, or crusty bread to soak up every drop.
This dish is simple, vibrant, and full of coastal soul—perfect for family gatherings or a quiet, nourishing meal at home.
